| It is with interest that I watch the debate over Spruce Meadows and the proposed development next door to it. It saddens me to see Spruce Meadows swallowed up by large-scale urban housing projects. When I used to go out to Spruce Meadows as a child, I really felt like I was on a farm in the middle of the prairies. Spruce Meadows is a gem that we should be proud of and deserves some consideration.
I realize that Calgary is growing, but we should look at other ways to curb our sprawling growth. With that said, it makes you wonder why such development projects get the green light. I certainly wouldn't think the tens of thousands of dollars given to the mayor and mayoral candidates by development companies has anything to do with it. After all, those were only campaign contributions.
