CAROLYN MARK & HER ROOMMATES
A Tribute to the Soundtrack to Robert Altman’s Nashville
Mint

· Pfff, and you thought Jerry Springer had cornered the market on Hee Haws.

Call it crazy that a bunch of mostly Canadian kids are biting into a juicy piece of classic Americana. It's even more inexplicably crazy that they do it in fantastic form. Robert Altman's film Nashville has been described as everything from a slapstick soap opera to one confusing honky-tonk satire. The film was written to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the U.S. and features a truckload of characters (24 to be exact, as well as one unseen character) all vying for celebrity.

So, isn't it natural for a bunch of Canadian indie darlings to join hands and recreate every nuance that made the original a classic? Sure! Led by West Coast sweetheart Carolyn Mark, Team Canada hams it up just as well as our neighbours down south, while adding zestful punch to the irony. It's a hilarious listen with inspired vocal performances from Neko Case, The Sadies, Kelly Hogan, Carl Newman, Dottie Cormier and more. Be prepared to sit down and listen raptly to the entire giddy production. While the 140-minute film was criticized for often having its camera seemingly pointed in the wrong direction, the microphone on this tribute does not miss a moment of the Music City action.
