Death Care Online

There are a number of ways people cope with death and dying. Some people set up memorial funds, buy a park bench to honour their loved one or just sit in their rooms with the lights off. Grief is extremely personal and unique to one's situation, and not everyone fits a pattern in dealing with their loss.

At least that's what I assumed when I found a site that lets you e-mail loving messages to friends and family after you "pass." I cannot even fathom what the subject heading would be – hopefully the folks at timelessmail.com have a few ideas. The Basic service lets you send 20 messages for $12 US per year, the Plus 40 costs $18 US per year and, for the popular dead people, the Premium gets you 60 e-mails for $24 US per year. Unfortunately, since you need a valid U.S. Social Security Number, this offer is only for the bereaved south of the border.

Creepy.

OK, so let's say one day you get one of these electronic messages from the grave. How do you cope? The "reply" button appears to mock you. Thankfully, the sensitive people at myheavenlyemail.com have a solution. You can post a memorial to your dearly departed family member/ friend/ pet for the world to see, or send your own private "Heavenly Email" (privacy protected), which will be answered by a rotating "Heavenly Help" reply. This will cost you $5 a pop, but you do have the option of becoming a member for $25. The membership only lasts six months, though – time to heal is limited.
