After a brief period of commentary devoted to the silly and culture-lite (30 per cent less thought-provoking content!), I've decided to redeem myself with some highly recommended kick-ass design sites that'll restore your faith in the future of Web design.
First, gmunk.com is like watching the realization of minimalist techno in Flash. Bradley Grosh is the mastermind behind this print design firm's foray into online video and animation production. The GMunk Studio is making life more interesting for the Web with pieces that are more like art than advertising. Grosh's personal projects defy description, but if you've ever wondered what Plastikman, stuffed cows and unorthodox condiments have in common, well, you'll still be wondering but hot damn it looks amazing. Be prepared: the site looks small at a glance, but if you spend less than a week here, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
Most people's personal Web pages are fairly depressing pet photos, personal shots involving dressing as various Disney characters, and Top Ten lists involving far too many 80s references are tragic. Thankfully, lovelydesign.com gives new hope to the genre. Centred around engaging interactive menus and photo journal galleries, this site is a thoughtful look into one person's poetic ramblings that piques your curiosity with Zen-like calm.
When passing through you'll notice a few links to other sites, most notably the boardsofcanada.com Web site, which provides the hauntingly soothing soundtrack. Currently, the site offers little other than a brief discography of the band and a "coming soon" promise. Pray there's no pet photos holding up the process. |
