| Regarding the review of Black Hawk Down (Down and dirty, by Jaime Frederick, Film, Jan. 24-30): did the reviewer actually see the film, or just base his review on his disdain of U.S. foreign policy? What did he expect to see? It is a film made as a tribute to the struggles and valour of the individual soldiers involved in the battle. They died fighting an aggressive enemy, whose sole aim on that day was to kill as many American soldiers as possible. Maybe someday the Somalis can film their own version of the events, in case anyone cares to know. They can call it: "We Downed Blackhawks, and Then Got Our Asses Rightly Kicked." Until then, the U.S version will have to do.
Black Hawk Down is more anti-war than anything else Hollywood has done lately, and merits a fair review, without the anti-U.S. blinders worn by your writer. I'm no fan of U.S. foreign policy either, but I know heroism when I see it, and so did the makers of Black Hawk Down.
