THE JACK UNION
A Fine Madness
Indie

· Defining effort from southern Alberta quintet.

Formed in 1996 and featuring the Blanchette brothers, The Jack Union sounds suspiciously like The Tragically Hip, or is it Rick Springfield? A textbook exercise in rock and roll, A Fine Madness features 10 crystal-clear tracks with that special prairie oyster flavour built right in to the mix. This independent release was mastered in the Burnaby, B.C. studio where Nickelback, Matthew Good Band and Econoline Crush do their recording. The result (surprise, surprise!) is a rather generic-sounding low-budget Canadian rock album with retro yearnings. Soothingly unprovocative, these guys have the potential to infiltrate many a live venue, and have already attained modest airplay in Lloydminster without event.
