THE EXPLODERS
New Variations
Teenage USA
· First full-length blow-out from Toronto quartet that'll make Estrus garage rock fans drool.
These are the snarly cats who start bar-room brawls and leave the biggest bruisers in the house with two black eyes and no girlfriend. On New Variations named after an old porn mag (would you expect any less?) The Exploders offer up one bellowing rock ruckus. The frantic animalistic freak-out a-go-go of Simon Pius (on vox) is occasionally overpowered by muscular guitar noodling by the star of the show, Classy Craig Daniels (formerly of The Stinkies and Tijuana Bibles). Daniels's moves are flawless, his solos are scrappy, and paired with the drum stylings of Johnny La Rue, the result is a no-brainer success. Eleven fiery tracks including "The New Math" and a cover of the Dead Boys' "Flame Thrower Love" show that there is not a serious or boring moment to be had on this LP.
