New Year’s Eve party watch

Need a plan for New Year’s Eve? In Fast Forward’s continuing effort to connect the party dots, here’s a brief list of events that will help you ring in the new year.

· The mighty BeatMatrix scores again this year with its blockbuster hip-hop and reggae format. Like previous years, they’ve hooked up a major venue for their New Year’s Gala. This year, they’ll be in the Telus Convention Centre for another round of libations and music – as always, PJ the Boy and Drew Atlas will chair the festivities.

· Down the street, the Palace offers up a Las Vegas Party theme as the Alliance Sound Crew takes you through all manner of hip-hop and rhythm and blues to bring in ’02.

· The Night Gallery will present a special show featuring Michael Rose, a former member of Black Uhuru, rocking you steadily into the new year. Chances are this show will replicate the phenomenal performance that Rose gave earlier in the year. Tickets are limited.

· The Castle Pub will present a New Year's version of Dub in the Pub. This will feature resident selectors High and I, and you'll get the reggae and jungle hybrid which has made Dub at the Pub essential listening for those who know music is the answer.

· One Yellow Rabbit holds its sure-thing New Year’s Gala, an event with a little bit of everything. Funk, rare groove and soul will be the emphasis and this year’s host will be none other than Sideshow Sid, who’s back from England for the night.

· Shadow Night Club will feature Kelly Fester and J Jonus Jordan splitting a drum ’n’ bass-themed New Year's Eve.

· Embassy Nightclub flashes back for a retro New Year with DJ Wah on the main floor, and DJs Al Testa and Faust in the basement, holding down the funk and soul.

· Cherry Lounge will combine its phenomenal DJ talent, featuring DJ Rice and DJ Pump for an evening of house and hip-hop.

· The Warehouse offers an all-out house assault – this year they’ve combined the talents of Dekoze, Dave the drummer and Chris Liberator, and Warehouse resident Special Agent will be on hand to take you from midnight until dawn.

· The Ship and Anchor has the ultra-hip, super-styling Dean Clarke spinning a supercharged evening of funk and hip-hop for the sweat-soaked masses. Meanwhile, down the strip, The Mercury has their annual dinner and a DJ.

· Calgary’s newest nightclub, The Whiskey, has DJs Scott Clarke and Rob Rodriquez blending all manner of music.

· A few doors down, at The Drink, there will be the Snow Ball, which promises soft, fluffy entertainment.

· Finally, if you feel like raving, Funktion 2002 features EKG, Kultcha, Fever, Emotion and others in an all-night ceremony dedicated to the beat. Tickets are available, in advance, at Feroshus.
