THE DERAILERS
Here Come the Derailers
Lucky Dog/ Sony
· Never mind the Derailers, here come the bollocks.
I'd always thought "derailers" had something to do with bicycle gears. Turns out, however, it's just the name of another crap country-rock band out of Nashville. Too bad.
The four guys look mean enough, crammed into their ill-fitting shiny suits on loan from The Sopranos. And the lineup of Fender guitars on the back cover would seem to promise a hard-rockin', no-hostages-taken time all round. But slap on the CD itself and what you get is 40 minutes of the most boring and inoffensive honky-tonk this side of John Denver.
To give The Derailers some credit, the instrumental "Country A Go-Go" is pretty good. But the rest of the songs all sound a bit like Joe Ely or the Fabulous Thunderbirds on Prozac a lot of Prozac. Indeed, the only things likely to get derailed if you buy this are your time, patience and faith in roadhouse bands.
Now where did I put my bike?
