It's a very long process to turn a nightlife into a career. For four years, Domenic G has been building his weekly night, Fehrenheit (originally co-founded with Jon Delerious and Fever), to the point where it is now a mainstay on the club scene.

Beginning at Gotham, Fehrenheit has since moved venues three times and now resides at Pandemonium every Wednesday. Dom says the new location will allow Fehrenheit to grow, and expand on the international lineup of biggie DJs – including DJ Dan, Adam Freeland, Charles Feelgood and Donald Glaude – that has brought the night to its current level of success.

Still, DJing remains the primary passion for Dom, as it provides him with a way to participate in the fun of club culture while also allowing him to express himself. Recently he's begun producing his own tracks. The soon-to-be-released "High Stepper" is already in circulation on dub plate and will be the first featured track on Jelo's new CD. This has led to Dom entertaining offers to produce tracks for the likes of Bad Boy Bill, who will perform at Fehrenheit on October 31.

"I can produce a track in a couple of days and play it.... Once you start producing, people listen, and that's when you get people saying they want to help or do something with you."

For the aspiring DJ and Dom alike, the guideposts aren't always clear, but the results are – he says it's worthwhile doing something that you are truly passionate about, even if you remain largely unknown to the masses.

"Our guys here (in Calgary) are playing all over Canada.... People watch Calgary to see what's happening here, and that matters, but most people here don't know just how good our boys are...."

Nevertheless, Domenic G is a name that will remain a sign of quality as long as the fun remains and the Fehrenheit rises.

A quick note – Earthdance will be held on October 13. The party is one of a hundred other events that will occur at the same time worldwide to raise awareness for peace on mama earth. Calgary is no exception to the cause this year, as it will bring the message of unity and peace home with a multi-talented line up that includes Richard Humpty Vission, the aforementioned Domenic G, Tryptomene, GI Jody, Doug Page, Spilt Milk and Five Alive. Tickets are at Feroshus and there is more information at www.unionevents.com or www.earthdance.org.
