I wish to complain about Fast Forward's underdog policy. While it is quite necessary to champion the underdog, let us be solely accurate as to exactly who the underdog is. Injustice can and does occur in any culture, in any society, of either gender, any race, towards any person of any orientation. There are as many reasons to discriminate as there are people, the most malicious reason being that of class.

Racism, sexism, anti-semitism, homophobia, etc. are not problems in and of themselves – they are symptoms of a greater problem, one of systemic inequality. White, male, secular and straight-bashing attitude has no place in the free press, just as it is rude to sneeze or cough in someone's face, as it is inappropriate to fuel the fires of discontent among those invisible minorities, the middle and lower classes.

Pity and sympathy should be availed to all who suffer the symptoms of injustice and unfairness. The ruling classes should be held most accountable under the viewing-glasses of the press, regardless of race, culture, gender and the like. Even though races, cultures, genders, etc. are not necessarily equal among the ruling classes, it is the ruling class itself, and necessarily the system of rule employed by such that you must singularily take to be the highest order of your scrutiny.

Though there should always be difference in class, one always should and must check and balance the other so the difference may never grow to become obscene.

David J. Still,
Calgary
