Don't Fear the Reverb

· Al Foul has been around the block a few times – The Stingrays are still learning how to drive.

Al Foul and The Shakes lower the brow and speed up the heart on Spank That Ass. The Tucson, Arizona trio like their rockabilly peppery hot, but widely avoid the pitfall of belting out the same song over and over. With 10 playful tracks, Foul boasts about gettin' fresh with ladies, roasting hot dogs and toasting the sudsy, mysterious "Milwaukee Beast." A reliable addition for fans of the genre, Al Foul and The Shakes offer a sturdy quick fix from beginning to end.

Also from Slimstyle Records is a hip surf-rock trio from California called The Stingrays. While their latest album, Don't Fear the Reverb, should be given props just for the title, these young cats impress with mighty explosive potential. Mainly influenced by The Eliminators, the teens in The Stingrays take a nostalgic tour of beaches in the 1960s, when they were populated by the likes of Dick Dale and The Ventures. The momboosa hit is "La Chancha," sounding like it has Herb Alpert's blessing with Dave Allen (Tiki Tones) supplying the trumpet.
