Why do we continue to bring in mediocre Canadian acts to round out a festival in this city? Last Friday’s Calgary Folk Music Festival lineup was a great success except for Gord Downie and his band of hacks. Would we not have come if it weren’t for him? He even ran out of material with 15 minutes left in his act. Get off the stage! All he did was cut into the performing time of Billy Bragg, who could have done with another 20 minutes or so. I am not against Canadian artists – there is some amazing talent out there. But, let’s leave out over-inflated, self-indulging washed-up guys like Gord Dowine.
