This collaboration between New York songwriter Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and French vocalist Dominique Durand has produced a handful of pop gems in its seven-year history, but never an album memorable enough to make them stars. Long Distance isn't going to change that: poised and polished, gentle and well-crafted, but lacking the melodic spark of Autour de Lucie's latest outing or the exhilarating intelligence of Francoiz Breut. Pleasant, but inessential.
