· Two of the principal investigators of a cross-Canada study on child care, "You Bet I Care," will be discussing their findings at Mount Royal College colloquium this week. The study, released in September 2000, noted that caregiver salaries in Alberta are below the national average, and turnover rates among staff are the highest in the country. Child care is the only social or educational service in Alberta that is funded solely by parent fees.
Dr. Donna Lero will facilitate a Parent and Caregiver Forum on the national child care situation and how Alberta compares on Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at the U of C Child Care Centre (no registration required). Then on Friday, April 20, a session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Room at Mount Royal College, including a presentation by Lero and Dr. Annette LeGrange on the study, its parameters and ramifications, as well as a panel presentation by the Child Development Initiative to explore what is being done at the provincial and local levels. To register for the session call 240-3833, or for more information call 240-6867.
