Re: Ex-mayor condemns council for dropping real estate registry, by Jack Locke (News, January 4)

It is a shame that the Real Estate Registry for the elected members of the council and for city hall officials is being dropped. Most democratic governments in the world require the declaration of the assets held by the people in civic and other positions of authority. This way the citizens can keep track of the net worth of these people to ascertain that they have not benefited from their office. Is it something they wish to hide by not putting their assets in the registry?.
