Two weeks into the new year and the list of options for beat fanatics is as strong as ever.
For those of you who live large, the plus-size party prize goes to MELD this weekend. The format for this party is definitely an adrenal blend of all things beat. A bit of trance comes your way courtesy of Mark EG, Russell and Ursa. Mix in a little techno for flavour – courtesy of GI Jody, Arrdattack and Honeey Mustard – add a dash of house from the tag team duo of Mixed Signals and DJ Pleasure, and you’ve got your beat bases covered for another Saturday excursion. As has been tradition for Katalyst events, psychedelic art and visuals will accompany this ride – Harold, Moonwalker and Captain Pleasure feed your optical inputs for the evening. Sunday at the Palace, Rave Gangsta will see the coming of Vancouver’s grooverobber, phunk and r. guardian for one night o’ house. Tickets are available at Feroshus.
No big changes in your resident options as most venues have continued their programs into this new year.
Friday night, all-night dancing options continue unabated with the Warehouse, Soul Tattoo and Emerald Café laying out your magic carpet. The Warehouse has Special Agent, Soul Tattoo has Phunk and Vinne, and Emerald Café presents Taro, SOB and Honeey Mustard.
Saturday, Emerald continues with Phelan and Anwar who have Taro as guest. The Warehouse features Pauly Dee and Anthem while Bruno holds court in the basement.
Tuesday, A Tribe Called Quest’s extraordinary MC Phife Dawg will be at the Palace to do a little workout with you. This is a one-shot deal. Tickets are available in advance from the Palace and TicketMaster.
House heads can take refuge in Carbon for the evening as Killerboot throws its industry night in the basement.
Wednesday, Fehrenheit takes hold of the Embassy again for the multi-roomed evening featuring Testa, Clarke, Cereo, Fever, Domenic G and Delerious. Freshmode! continues at the Night Gallery with Melo-D and Rye.
