DAR WILLIAMS
The Green World
Razor & Tie

This is the sound of that nameless longing you used to get when you had time to notice, the one that flared up during your adolescent evenings long after the house went quiet, or just before your relationship or your job went sour. To hear the sound of Williams’s intensely produced, fluid songs is to listen again to that grove of trees you walked past every day in a hurry to get somewhere else on time, somewhere you could drink coffee alone, somewhere you could smooch with that cute guy whose fleeting face you don’t want to remember. It’s a bit universal, a bit defining and a bit annoying. But the melody licks the hurt clean, and the woman’s easy voice puts Band-Aids on the parts you’d rather forget.
