Beat Boutique by Rob Faust This weekend you get to dance for Tibet or join in on the paradise loft movement – whatever way you warm your heels, there’s more than one way to bust a move. Family sets to kick off its second week down on 1st Street, hosted by techno diva Double D. Ryan Phelan, the DJ formerly known as Dr Who?, will be in as guest this week – doors open at 9 p.m. Friday has Horizon down at the Warehouse shaking yer booties until 7 a.m. Resident DJ Special Agent will host with a guest. Bounce goes late at Soul Tattoo – this week’s guest will be Kristian from the U.K. and Legin. Joining them will be Phunk and Vinne. Doors for this night will open at 11 p.m. and tickets are available at the door. Saturday’s megaparty EarthDance will take over the Max Bell Sportsplex. This party is connected to five others around the globe and those parties will be projected on screens located about the hockey rink. The Mighty Selecta’s for this evening will be Robbie and Scott Hardkiss, Joeshi, Lotus Queen, Tryptomene, Domenic G, DJ Tune, Fever, Yggorasil, Travis Kell and GI Jody. A portion of the profits will be donated to Ravesafe and to Tibetan Refugees Relief Agencies. Tickets are available in advance at Phonics, Blue Light Special, Divine, The Source or Ticketmaster. Information? Call 284-4185. There will also be an after-party, beginning at 7 a.m., held at the Warehouse with Gavin Hardkiss, Celcius, Cool Hand Luc and Shannon Busta. Also on Saturday as well, Junglistic Scientifix takes place down at JJ’s Bar on Macleod Trail. Proph, Fanatyk and the Lotus Queen will come together to bring you five hours of jungle mayhem, doors open at 9 p.m. Emerald Café (below 421 Meredith) celebrates its grand opening with Taro, Honeey Mustard, and Guests. Sanctuary at Soul Tattoo with Mel Reyes and guests will also deliver the late night cargo, as will Blissed which happens down at the Warehouse with residents Pauly Dee and Anthem. On a smaller tip, Refuge’s birthday party, Loft in Paradise happens on Saturday as well. DJs for this one include Commodore, Anwar, Delerious, Emotion, Tieps, Rob Tech, Giovanni, Faust, Lotus Queen and Refugee and there will also be a guest vocalist in from Chicago, Sacred Elliot. Tickets are at the door. Call 231-9242 for data. Wednesday has the infamous Isaac S in for a set down at the Embassy with Domenic G and Delerious, for Fehrenheit. On the bill and in the basement will be Cereo, Fever, Testa and Dean Clarke. Freshmode! Wednesdays are also in play with Darius and Rye at Night Gallery. Save your change for the future as the Herbaliser will be in town next Friday, Czech on Saturday and Coldcut a week later on Sunday, October 29. DJ Hype will be at Fright Night 6.
