VICTORIA WILLIAMS
Water to Drink
Atlantic

· New studio album from quirky American folk pop artist.

There is an old-world, past-times sound to this album that never gets weepy or nostalgic, but somehow paves an empty highway for some slow-moving pickup truck creeping towards the dusty sunset and tomorrow. Williams’s voice is so clear and honest and sad that you’re almost afraid to listen to the tales she has to tell, lest you catch your breath on an emotion too real to turn aside at the song’s end. Even the upbeat tunes are speared with a joy sharpened by having known pain, and are all the sweeter for it.
