THE MURDER CITY DEVILS
In Name and Blood
Scratch/Sub Pop

· Third full-length from Seattle rockers.

Oh, babies, three albums in and you still make me gasp and moan, my fingers trembling as I tear open the wrapper and breathe in your sound. And I feel so filled up and fulfilled as your first big organ notes slide across the room, driven by the charging guitars and your voice, telling stories of chain-linked late nights and whisky as you growl out heartbreak and careen around the edges of questions you’d rather not have to ask. But it’s OK between us, babies – I know you’ll rock me harder for all the other singers’ lips that caress my ears; you’ll just dig a little deeper ‘cause it makes you so angry, like a climax of rage. And these songs attack and sandblast me to the wall – after all, it’s not the kind of music you can take lying down. Oh, but you teases, what is this "I’ll Come Running" song that sounds like Sandie Shaw having a threesome with Sonny and Cher? Oh, it’s a Neil Diamond cover? But babies, you still bring me flowers – and then force open my petals and tear ’em’ all off. And I like it.
