Abnormal is the order of the day.

Get your groove on for another week of supreme beat therapy with two monster parties, a chance to DV8 and an opportunity to get a little naughty.

On Thursday, you pick ’em and they might end up playing on Saturday for the downtown DV8 festival. Embassy hosts one of the DV8 pre-parties as eight local DJs spin off against one another to get a chance to play alongside the U.K. crew of the Scratch Perverts (World DMC Team champs of ’99) as well as local boy Pump (who beat out DJs from all over Canada this past Sunday to win the DMC Nationals at The Palace) and Edmonton’s Spilt Milk. Here’s how it’ll work: the eight finalists will play, you’ll show your approval, and the DJ that receives the best reaction will end up on the bill for this weekend’s DV8. The first 200 people who show up will also get a free pass for Saturday. Doors open at 9 p.m.

The Little Miss Naughty 2000 tour sets foot in the Soho Bar and Grill for the next two Friday nights. This week the hosts will be Cool Whip, Pascalle and D-Fi. Joining them will be none other than Los Angeles’s DJ Dazy who’ll funk you until the wee hours of the morning. Doors open at 10 p.m.

On Saturday after you’re done DV8ing, the night features two biggie parties: Chunky Soup III and Escape.

Chunky Soup III offers you a more exploratory approach to the party thing. Anyone with a set of bongos may represent, as punk and beat merge to bring together the endless possibilities of musical worlds. Headliners will include Dekoze, Phoenicia, Richard Devine, Lunatech, Insomniak and others, while on the slate for local DJs you get Mel Reyes, Taro, Foto, Mr Kim, the DJ formerly known as Dr Who?, Anwar, Dead Air, I Jah, Feroshi, G.I. Jody, Davita, Chris Schmidt, Davila. On the experimental side of the equation you’ll get the fine figure of a DJ Magpie, Glow Worm and the Lady Gates Experience. Add to this about 10 more DJs and 12 bands exploding together and you get the idea that this might be one monster of a party. Tickets are available at Feroshus, Sloth or Phonics. Proceeds will go to the Four World’s Institute for Human and Community Development. Need more info? Call 255-SOUP for the details.

If you’d rather Escape for the better part of a day, hit the beat with your favourite tranceasaurus rex down at an undisclosed locale as Trancelott, Suzy Solar, Epoc and Emotion take you on a joyride through your mind and all places in between. It’s scheduled to run for 18 hours, and other DJs on the ticket include Transit, Mel Reyes, Julius, Commodore, Dewar, Friar Tuck and Entropy. Information can be had by calling 228-9370. Tickets are at Feroshus and a very limited number can be had at the door.

Jump to Wednesday when Jelo and Trek-E will both be down at ye olde Embassy for the weekly hit of Fehrenheit. Of course, regular hosts Domenic G, Delerious, Cereo, Fever and recent additions Testa and Dean Clarke will also be in attendance.

Also of some note, Elements, the DJ convention/rave that was to shake Cowpokeville has been called off due to the lack of an available venue. Further details will be announced. Coming in August: mega party Perception, mega DJ Junior Sanchez and assorted mega others.
