A stampede o’ big-name beats

If Guy Weadick only knew, he’d roll in his grave, babies. So prepare, as this week the global groove gurus fall like manna from heaven. Get your soul filled with the thunder of Bones, Sanchez or Oakenfold as the weekend parties get bigger.

Start the weekend off with your weekly supply of deep house courtesy of Arena. Brothers in beat Pasta and S.O.B. team up to host the exquisite Henry Mah, who’s part of Vancouver’s Ricedream team. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Saturday, house heads can pay their Respect to the beat gods as Mr. New York, Roger Sanchez, swings through town on the latest leg of his DJ journey. He’ll be cranking out a four-hour set on three decks for all you fine folks. Now legendary for his production work with everyone from Janet and Michael Jackson through Jamiroquai, he earned a Grammy Award nomination last year for his remixing skills. Joining Mr. Sanchez will be Dave Aude (Los Angeles) as well as local jocks Cary Chang, Five Alive, Skot Dub, M&Emes, Al Bass, Kuni, Freeze and Legin. Visuals will be provided by the Compound Eye crew. Tickets are going to be limited so be sure to get them while you can from Feroshus. Info can be had by calling 403-202-0084.

Hey kid, wanna go faster? No less the significant party, Liquid Summer’s the same night and it will feature another great Yankee techno clipper, Frankie Bones. While he may not have a Grammy nomination, he has been around long enough to know the shit from Love Inc. This one will definitely end up on the tech side of things and also includes Vegas tech head Scott Stubbs and Victoria’s not-so-secret Alcheme. Local support comes from Emotion, Five Alive, Special K, Aardattack, Honeey Mustard, GI Jody, Mel Reyes, Lawrititioner, Mark Thomas, Double D, D.No, Karizma, Cykosis, Mixed Signals, Tropism and Julius. You’ll get two indoor stages plus an outdoor stage, fire performers, flag-spinners and more. Info can be had by calling 403-730-6411, and tickets can be had by buying them at Feroshus, Phonics or the door.

Sunday, catch your breath, then trance your pants off down at The Palace as Synergy Sunday takes you on the Paul Oakenfold express toward nirvana. Tickets to see the man voted as the world’s number one DJ in Britain’s DJ Magazine are extremely limited so get them before you can’t. They are available at Feroshus or Underground Clothing outlets in Southcentre or Sunridge malls. Max Graham and Cary Chang will fill in between the lines.
