Saint Etienne
Sound of Water
Mantra / Beggars Banquet

· England’s honey pop trio collaborate with Sean O’Hagan (Stereolab) and post-rock-techno-neu-kraut-rock-pioneers To Rococo Rot.

Saint Etienne has made a career out of writing perfect pop songs for jet-setters scrambling through airports or dashing down English country roads in convertibles. Everyone who loves Saint Etienne can wear a scarf with style. With Sound of Water, the band’s Triumph has found itself parked on the coast. The trio takes a deep breath of the salty air as the morning fog convinces them to leave their Paul Smith suits packed, opting for woolly sweaters instead. Even their synthesizer seems a little more relaxed.

"Lovely," says Peter.

"Yes," sighs Sarah, "lovely"
