Beat Boutique
by FFWD Staff

Another rousing, soul-stirring weekend of nationalistic fervour is at hand, beat babies. This weekend you can live the beer commercial: barbecue, drink bad beer, sing a few choruses of "O Canada," chop down an old-growth forest, pollute a northern habitat, perhaps replay that Kim Mitchell album over and over – or you can shake that money maker, move to the limitless world of all-night beat marathons and help propel your corner of Canada toward the musical light of the 21st century.

Hopefully monsoon season abates by Saturday, as Canada 2000 plops down somewhere around this cowpoke ville. Headliners include Tidy Trax phenom Rachel Auburn, and Superfast O and DJ Volume will be in from the States. Captain Canucks include Dekoze, Dr. Trance, Jr Ragoo, Grooverobber, Kultcha, Danny V, Jason Hope, Expo, Cliff Vermette and Rich e Rich.

As it is an alchemist party, Bazooka Joe, Al Bass, Vinne and Mark Thomas will represent. Also on the bill are Domenic G, Delerious, Five Alive, Emotion, Mel Reyes, Pauly Dee, Ryan Phelan, Size Small, Anwar, Mista Levi, Tieps, Freeze and more. You get the idea – this is a plus-size mega outdoor party that will happen over the course of the weekend. Featuring two stages complete with a beer garden, it starts at noon on Saturday and runs until noon on Sunday, so getting your tickets early might be a good idea. Information can be had at 403-229-8553 and tickets are available at Feroshus.

Don’t feel like taking that trip out of town? Late night down at the Warehouse you’ll find Bliss with Pauly Dee and this week’s guest Dr. Trance.

On Sunday, Synergy is off and running again down at The Palace. This week, the hard house of the Tidy Trax tour comes through town, headliners include Fergie and Ian M with guests Emotion and Five Alive. Tickets can be had in advance at Feroshus, TicketMaster or at The Palace. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Don’t forget to set your calendar for: the Abyssinians, who’ll make a rare Canadian appearance next week down at The Night Gallery; mega DJ Roger Sanchez, who will be in town on July 15; and Paul Oakenfold, who will grace The Palace on July 16.
