by Aubrey McInnisBUILT TO SPILL
Live
Warner· Sixth LP; features nine live songs spanning Normal Years (1993) to Keep it Like a Secret (1999), a 20-minute cover of Neil Youngs "Cortez the Killer" and a cover of Love As Laughters "Singing Sores Makes Perfect Swords."
Given Built to Spills propensity for exclusively touring soil that isnt Albertan, theres plenty of incentive to travel the distance to see one of their shows. One reason is to feel the voluptuous sound that this canned live (in N.Y.C.) album regretfully needs. Despite recording limitations, BtS ringleader and mesmerizing string virtuoso Doug Martsch continues his gloriously bombastic guitar wizardry and an adamant vocal allegiance to Neil Young.
