by Anne SeversonArlene Stamp continues to push the boundaries of non-traditional art materials as she adds new perspectives to her original source matter, The Mum Tapes, recorded when her mother Mary was 80. This focus at TrépanierBaer uses aspects of Stamps Mary is Here exhibition at the Glenbow original 8mm home movies that Stamp took of her mother in the 1950s. Combining these with a quote from her mother "I wonder when I stopped dreaming I was a gonna be a movie star...?" a high-resolution light strip, two inches by 16 feet in length, moves the viewer around the room. There will be a double opening with Will Mentor presenting Mixed Literacies on May 18 at 6 p.m.

If this is Cowtown, then start looking for over 100 three-dimensional, cow-size, painted bovine replicas scattered from the downtown area over to the 17th Avenue S.W. shops. Udderly Art "is going to be hilarious," according to media relations communicator Andrea Timmer. The whimsical cows will moooove through our streets until October 28, when they will participate in a cattle auction at Stampede Park. The Udderly Art group is not-for-profit, and driven and managed by as many as 100 enthusiastic, fun-loving Calgary volunteers to raise funds for charity. Once again Cow-gary shows its distinctly individual and generous community spirit. Check out www.udderlyart.com for cows and a list of the artists and companies who provide support for this udderly ridiculous idea.
An exhibition by former Calgarian Grant Leier of acrylic paintings of celebratory images of life, love and great dining has just opened at Canada House in Banff under the title Divine Obsessions. More information is on the Web at www.canadahouse.com.
