CALEXICO
Hot Rail
Our Soil, Our Strength

· Third CD from American indie rock act.

Like someone spilled some Giant Sand on the road and then ran it over with a mariachi band and blew it all over with horns until it got caught in the brassiere – a brassiere that was removed by the deadpan guy with the bullet in his heart – of some French-speaking babe with a voice that sounds like fellatio; like all the other hurting songs that have ever been written at gunpoint; like someone dropped Prozac into the lounge band’s drinks then cancelled their gig; and, mostly, like the olive at the bottom of a martini – this album is an acquired taste, and one that could prove intoxicating.
