As the sunshine heats up, things slow down a little in the local art scene – but there’s still plenty to see if you know where to look.

Masters Gallery will hold an exhibition and sale of acrylic and watercolour works by Claude Simard from his recent book of paintings. Preview and opening are on May 11.

Truck will open For His and His Diggers: A Collection of the Past by Kenneth Doren on May 12 at 8 p.m. This will be an exciting video and audio retrospective by a Calgary digital artist who is considered a rising force in the Canadian scene. Doren creates multimedia projects that present a personal critique of popular culture, history and spirituality within the realm of technology. His works include a demonstration model of Monarchy Suite for Birth and the Crusading installation.

Newzones will have a double opening on May 13, starting at 1 p.m. and featuring William Perehudoff in Millennium Exhibition, and welded steel sculpture by Ben McLeod. (The cheese and crackers are always good at Newzones openings.)

Beginning on May 13, Collector’s Gallery will host a group show of gallery artists including Sasha Barrette, Sharon Mark and Judith Zinkan.

Wallace also has a group show of gallery artists including well known Calgary painters Joice Hall and Bill Duma.

While the good weather shines, consider a day trip to the nationally famous Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge to see Northern Alberta’s Peter von Tiesenhausen’s residency and exhibition until June 18. For more information call 403-327-8770.
