Beat Boutique
by Rob Faust

Thursday, PJ and the crew move into Embassy for two floors of urban groove goodies. Upstairs you’ll get hip hop, while downstairs you’ll be tuned into your favourite dancehall selections with Drew Atlas on the decks.

Cruise Control also takes place that night at Concorde, with Jonathon and Ravi as your guides. Other guest musicians will come along for the ride.

If you just can’t stop at last call, head over to the Warehouse, where Shine – which starts at 3 a.m. – will entertain you until dawn. You’ll find Domenic G, Double D, Cykosis, Dr Who? and Lukas Quinn rockin’ the jukebox until the sun comes up.

Can’t get out on Thursday? How ’bout Saturday, when Spring Beats hits the concrete. This one includes Holland’s DJ Gilbert and America’s DJ Speedy playing host with help from Grooverobber, Bazooka Joe, Al Bass, Vinne and Mark Thomas. Tickets are available at Feroshus and you can call the infoline at 229-8553.

Or, try Nocturnal, also on Saturday. This boasts the mixology of Lori the Hifi Princess, Captain Theo, Geoffrey J, Gerald, G.I. Jody, Insomniak and I-Jah. Tickets for this one are also at Feroshus. Call 271-9091 for more information.

If you still can’t get enough, Sunday has two more opportunities to celebrate Easter in beat style. Headsup is down at Cherry Lounge, with eight DJs going head to head. There will also be a b-boy/b-girl competition and – get this – a live snowboarding event held outside, courtesy of The Source.

Contact is the same night down at Embassy, featuring two floors of volatile beat mayhem courtesy of Domenic G, Delerious, Dr Who?, Anwar, YT, Tranceformer and headliner D-Monic. Visuals will be provided by Book Dade and Elliot Mealia. Doors open at 8 p.m.

The last Fehrenheit to be held down at Republik – after that it will switch to Embassy – is next week and features the lovin’ Cary Chang.

On that note, Cary has just released his first CD, which is available at Feroshus. But we’re gonna give one away this week – all you have to do is tell us Cary’s other DJ name. E-mail your answers to cunga66@home.com

Last but certainly not least for the week, next Thursday, April 27, Java Sharks presents Vancouver hip hoppers Moka Only along with Jeff Spec, both of the Conscious Pilot crew.

E-mail party info to cunga66@home.com.
