Calgary’s advertising and communications community has once again honoured its own at the annual Ad Rodeo gala and awards show. The event, which ends a week-long showing of the best campaigns from the past year, was held at the Jubilee Auditorium last weekend.

The big winner this year was Highwood Communications, which walked away with eight Anvil Awards, many of which were for the company’s print campaign for Marmot Basin ski hill. Another notable achievement was Propeller’s poster campaign for the Safe Haven Foundation, which took home this year’s best of show award.

In a special presentation, Ted Hellard, the man behind the internationally recognized Calgary agency Critical Mass, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hellard’s agency includes among its roster of clients companies such as Nike, Mercedes-Benz U.S.A and Smirnoff, and specializes in blue chip Web sites.
