by FFWD StaffAt last, the weekend youve all spent a fortune on and found that new best friend who can drive you to Edmonton for: the mega myth machine that is the Paul Oakenfold Experience. All you have to do is get rid of the nasty couple of days between Thursday and Saturday and voila! memories will be made.
Get yourself in the mood this Thursday down at 421 Meredith, where youll find the sonic experimentation continuing with Squibb. This Thursday features ambient DJs Honeey Mustard and Dead Air manipulatin the turntable in search of that elusive 13th chilled-out note. Electric Zoom will also be conducting a set in live electronic music, while Dug guides your eyes.
Friday, prepare for Saturday by heading down to Cherry Lounge where youll find the hardest working man in trance, Cary Chang (Feroshi), providing the vibe for your alchemical delight (turning vinyl into gold or something along those lines) with his weekly Mythic.
Strap it on and open the pod bay doors, Ralph, about 2,000 of ye Calgarians will merge with 2,000 more Edmontonians to revel in the sonic wave of hype that is Ascension. Oakenfold lights up the night in whats probably the most anticipated show to come round these parts in some time. Accompanying the good ship Oakenfold will be Cary Chang, Max Graham, Terry Tran and Domenic G. Turn the chill factor up to nine and find the ever-lovin Al Testa and Magpie playing your come-down goodies in a room adjacent, or join in with the spandex/beer tub ladies in the Molson room (I still dont get that), where youll find Slimboy, Junior Brown and Spilt Milk playing very non-corporate music. Tickets are available at Feroshus... if they even have any by the time you read this.
Rather not have your parties upsized? Those of you who stay behind can go all night down at 421 Meredith where Dr Who?, Anwar and Delerious will stir it up until dawn.
Next Weekend, Glide will feature an all-female lineup including headliners DJ Trancelott, Alana Davis, Stylus, Honeey Mustard and E-Motion. The emphasis for this show will be on the progressive side of trance n house. Tickets can be had down at Feroshus.
On a final note, in response to last weeks inquiry on the diversity of the party scene here in Cowtown, all of the respondents expressed an overwhelming desire for a more diverse weekend experience. That is, a call for more diverse rooms, an incorporation of the concept of an ambient, couch-ridden chill room and more drum n bass. A couple of you noted that music should be the guiding force for the party, not the "e" scene. As for the prices of the raves, most dont seem to think theyre getting their moneys worth, especially when it comes to Firepark. Anyway, something to chew on while youre forking out $30 at the doors.
