Libby’s Limousine zine

Working as an intern at V/Search and editor for Bunnyhop magazine, Libby Donovan, publisher of Limousine, has been involved in the small press publishing realm for a while. Libby chose to write under the pen name of Fortune Star for the latest issue (for reasons you’ll find out if you choose to send for a copy) and hooked up with artist Amy Esche for the artwork and images featured within.

So what will one find in Limousine? Mostly short articles that seem to bounce around from topic to topic, really with no rhyme or reason, but are informative and interesting. The articles in Issue #9 range from a book review of Lords of Chaos – The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground, to my personal favourite, "25 Lessons to Learn in Life" – short bits that make up Libby’s personal philosophy ("A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person" and "You should not confuse your life with your career" plus 23 more).

Limousine is a zine that is perfect to carry around as you go about your day, and to peruse when you find yourself waiting in line or sitting on the bus. To get a copy, send $2 (U.S. funds) to Libby Donovan, P.O. Box 11, San Mateo, California, 94401-001, U.S.A.

(For a review, send a copy of your latest creation to Ryan Glover, 10625 - 102 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5H 2T6, or e-mail occulture@hotmail.com.)

With the Academy Awards show set for this Sunday, there’s still plenty of time for debate and bickering as to who should win.

But what about those deserving films and actors/actresses who weren’t even nominated for an Oscar this year? Shouldn’t they receive special recognition?

Well, this year Fast Forward’s film critics have levelled the playing field and offered lists of who, in their humble opinions, should win the Oscar for best film, best actor, best actress and – surely a notable achievement – worst film of 1999. To make things interesting, and because we think the Academy frequently doesn’t know squat, we asked them to pick their winners from all of the films released last year and not just from the Oscar’s nominee lists.
