by FFWD StaffA boy scout is always prepared, but in todays complex world of bear attacks, random shootings, quicksand and pilot-less planes, the Boy Scout Handbook just isnt the resource it used to be.
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Chronicle Books) compiles step-by-step instructions on 40 things you need to know when life takes a sudden turn for the worse. As fascinating as it is frightening, the creators (two Philadelphia-based journalists) consulted experts for such scenarios as wrestling free from an alligator, performing a tracheotomy, escaping from a sinking car, manoeuvering on top of a moving train, and even delivering a baby in a taxi cab.
So the next time you have to jump from a building into a garbage bin, or are face to face with a mean mountain lion, you have only yourself to blame if you dont know what to do.
Web Watch
"Sure," you say, "I love watching bowling on TV who doesnt? But if only there was some way to make it even more exciting. Some way to make it even better."
Well, someone already has. From the fine folks at the American-based cable station The Nashville Network the very same people who bring roller derby and tractor pull (you know, real sports) into the confines of your conservatively furnished mobile home comes Rockin Bowl.
Pitting two teams of socially challenged American college students against one another in Las Vegas, Rockin Bowl throws a twist into regular 10-pin bowling and scores a strike! by adding extra "Rockin Bowl frames" where the athletes have to do such zany things as "Shuffle Bowl," or bowling relay races. Add to that already irresistible mix the way-too-excited announcers and audience members, cheerleaders (a sadistic way to torment the virgin bowlers, actually), dancing and a house band (the Pin Setters), and youve got 300 i.e. a perfect game!
You can catch Rockin Bowl every Friday night on TNN, or you can keep up with the standings on the Web at:
