by FFWD StaffWind it up babies this weekend the party circuit goes mental as there are no fewer than five parties vying for your frenzied feet.
But first, in case you havent noticed mullet-headed older folks with Hilfiger gear or tight faded Levis and Doc Martens, rumour has it that the local media have been trying to investigate this scene your scene. In fact, some have been sneaking hidden cameras into parties, so it might be advisable to be on your best behavior whilst tripping/bouncing and having some fun. The last thing you need is to have a lot of paranoid old rockers telling you how to behave and how vapid and meaningless your culture is. (Thanks to Chutney for the info.)
Now for the fun stuff. The first attack comes with Trilogy: The First Wave on February 19. This one is held in support of the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, and it sports San Frans fave DJ, Forest Green, as well as Anwar, Special K, Mel Reyes, Epoc, Form (live P.A.), and Five Alive. The music varies from techno to hard trance to deep house. Tickets are available at Phonics and at the door, and info can be had by calling 229-4545.
On the same night is Chakra, with the emphasis on a journey of trance. The evening also offers a smart bar, aromatherapy and reflexology to help your sensory experience. Jockeys for this are Yohimbe (San Fran), Taka (Vancouver), G.I. Jody, U.R.S.A., Space Cowboy and Rips. Tickets are available at Feroshus, Hemporium and Phonics. Call the info line at 508-8279 for further details.
If youd rather tickle your fancy on Sunday, February 20, youve got three options. First, youve got your 2-for-1 Family Day special where you can bump n grind to the fine PJ The Boy down at Capital, or Drew Atlas down at Cherry Lounge one ticket will get you into both locales. Be sure to tune into The Groove on CJSW Sunday afternoons for more information, or call Cherry or Capital for full information.
The second option is to slap on a wig, wear something sexy, put your vamp into overdrive, buckle up and boogie for the ever sexy, legendary supa dupa WIG OUT. This month, its being held at Embassy, and youll find residents Mike Grimes and the newly buff Pete Emes hosting their weekly Soul Kitchen This weeks guest is DJ Czech playing alongside the heavy, heavy monster sound of funk maestros Dean Clarke and Al Testa. Wigs, costumes and attitude are encouraged. Call 213-3970 for more information.
For the final option, strap on yer hard hat and get on down to Republik to shake what your mama gave you for All in the Family, featuring MetalHeadz DJ Loxy. This one also features the talents of Feroshi, Domenic G, Delerious, Pleasure, Vitamin E and drum n bass DJs Cereo, Karizma, Fever and Wuli. Tickets for this all-ages event are available in advance at Feroshus.
This weeks guest for Ferenheit, on Wednesday at Republik, is Tryptomene, whos in from Edmonton to play along with Domenic G.
Another biggie DJ will be coming through town in March the great Pepe Bradock will be playing on March 1 at an as-yet-undetermined location. So be prepared to see yet another of the worlds finest here in Cowtown....
