In 1947, Alberta’s legendary Luke Lindoe established fine art ceramics at the art institution now called ACAD. This spawned a legacy throughout Alberta that Virginia Christopher enhances by introducing Kenzan Terada and Yasuo Terada, a father and son team from Seto, Japan. Lindoe will join them at a special reception on July 24 at 2 p.m., and the exhibition will be up from July 24 to 29, and in August by appointment at 263-4346.

Twelve-foot-high parking lot lights will be inside Eau Claire Market starting July 23. As the latest contribution to Truck’s Public Sculpture Project, Lauren Schaffer’s two fibreglass lampposts are more conceptual than commercial, and their redundancy in a market functions to light Calgary’s way to art.

Would you believe that famous Rocky Mountain landscape paintings could come alive? Why not get out to Banff’s Walter Phillips Gallery for the two-hour program In Phillips Footsteps? On July 24 at 10 a.m., there will be a special viewing of works by master printer and watercolourist Walter J. Phillips. An interpretive hike will follow, with commentary on his significant influence on Rocky Mountain landscape art – as well as the naming of a gallery. Phone 403-762-6281 for more information.

If you like this mix of art-in-the-raw, Phillips joins Lawren Harris, A. Y. Jackson and others in the Hiker’s Guide to Art of the Canadian Rockies by Lisa Christensen, published by the Glenbow in 1996.
