Go Magazine: No Experience Necessary

Joseph Campbell coined the phrase "follow your bliss." Rob Briscoe, publisher of Go, chooses a more contemporary motto: "Grab life by the balls."

This Calgary-based magazine with an international focus was first visualized about four months ago by a young individual who believed he had an idea to share. Rob Briscoe – keeper of the vision and creator of Go Magazine – took a look at the conventional methods of publishing, then proceeded to rescript the rules and methods, creating a publication that is truly one of a kind. The subtitle literally speaks for itself: No Experience Necessary.

Go is published by those with no experience and will remain to be so for each issue, five times a year. From the layout and design, to the Web site and CD-ROM, to editorial contributors and illustrators, each issue will be created from scratch.

The concept is all about living your dream, and Go is a manifestation of that spirit. Within the lavishly produced premiere issue you’ll find a wealth of information from those who are living their dream and doing so as we speak. Maybe your dream is not in the publishing industry, but Go will give you the inspiration and perhaps a few more tools to wake you up, get those juices flowing.

So what are you waiting for? Go get it!

June 4 marks the 10th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, when the Chinese government crushed a pro-democracy student protest. To this day, people are still serving prison sentences for their pro-democracy activities.

The Global Petition Campaign is an international effort to lobby the government of the People’s Republic of China. Along with background information on the campaign, the Internet petition sends a letter to the People’s Republic of China president Jiang Zemin, as well as Kofi A. Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, and Mary Robinson, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The petition calls on the Chinese government to:

• Re-evaluate the official verdict on the Tiananmen pro-democracy protest and bring to justice those responsible for the human rights violations committed

• Release all prisoners of conscience, including those still in prison for their 1989 pro-democracy activities, and review the cases of all political prisoners

• Put an immediate end to harassment, detention and imprisonment of Chinese citizens exercising their legitimate rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of religion

• Demonstrate a willingness to respect the rights of all Chinese citizens by proceeding quickly to ratification and implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
