It’s ongoing graduation, this time for the University of Calgary’s Bachelor of Fine Arts students with an opening on April 23 at 4:30 p.m. at The Nickle Arts Museum on the campus. The Nickle is known for its wonderful viewing space, with 800 square metres for the 30 students to spread out in.

You can move on that same night, April 23, for a double opening at 8 p.m. in Truck with FASTWURMS. The collaborative group shares authorship with artists Dai Skuse and Kim Kozzi. Formed in 1979, they mingle media, environment and issues of power. An artist talk will also be presented on April 24 at 2 p.m.

Same time, same place, local artist Robin Arsenault will be there to open Fabric ate Glowing – translucent tubular fabric pieces suspended with hand-written text interspersed amongst small portrait/preliminary drawings. The tubes are extensions of physicality and represent 3-D emotions that speak the language of the body and are reminiscent of the heart.

Laura Cassel’s Freedom to Dance is a mixed-media installation dealing with the restrictions of stereotypical women’s roles. It’s showing at The New Gallery with the closing reception on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m.

Gay and Lesbian Community Services Association (GLCSA) will hold their fifth annual Expressions Art Show and Auction. Described as "sophisticated and really pretentious... like a homosexual semi-formal ball," this fun fund-raiser on April 24 starts at 8 p.m. at the Metropolitan Centre (333 - 4th Avenue S.W.). For more information call GLSCA 234-8973.

Pop art, its legacy and the culture of collecting will be discussed with out-of-town guest Victoria Baster, University of Lethbridge Art Gallery’s associate curator at the Glenbow theatre on April 29 at 7 p.m. This presentation is part of Glenbow’s regular in-depth programming on Art and Culture of the 1960s in connection with Making It New!, the current exhibition at the Glenbow. Pop Goes the Ease! on Thursday.
