Guide to the invisible

They’re all around you. You can’t see them, but they’re there. They’re on your skin, they’re in the air you breathe, they’re growing in nooks and crannies, they’re right before your eyes.

And now you can find out exactly what they are.

A Field Guide to the Invisible (Henry Holt) by Wayne Biddle looks at the world that exists outside the human range of vision. Once you get past the boring cover, the book is full of interesting facts and trivia on all the things we can’t see – from poisonous gases you can’t smell (carbon monoxide) to other things you can (farts, burps, body odor), and from the living (dust mites, bacteria) to the deadly (radiation).

Biddle approaches his subject with a sense of humor and says the book is not intended to create paranoia, but to serve as "a layperson’s guide to the inescapable stew we’re in." However, sometimes knowing what they are is just as bad as knowing they’re there.

Col. "X" on the Web

He may be the closest thing to the Cigarette Smoking Man alive – Col. L. Fletcher was the model for Col. "X" in Oliver Stone’s film JFK.

Prouty spent nine of his 23-year military career in the Pentagon, including appointments as the first "focal point" officer between the CIA and the Air Force for Clandestine Operations, and briefing officer for the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Prouty’s personal experiences led him to conclude that those seemingly in control of the world are taking orders from unknown clandestine forces. His views on the Kennedy assassination and the entire Cold War are also fuel for conspiracy theorists’ fantasies.

While Prouty could be easily dismissed, his Web site has enough interesting material to make the most hardened skeptic a little paranoid.
