by FFWD StaffRe: Fashion salutes and citations (January 7, 1999)
I am bringing to your attention an article I'm disgusted with.
The photo "Citation: Harsh tokes" is someone's livelihood. He spray-paints clothes and other articles for a living and makes a good wealth (sic) at it.
Your article criticizes his art in a negative way which will damage his business. Not to mention that a picture of him was taken without consent. I feel you owe him a big apology and an article to promote his business which... may fix some of the damage.
This article is everything Carla has tried not to be: shallow. She is tacky, tasteless and most of all not fashion-orientated. Her ideals are off a TV program and obviously not original, like fashion strives for.
A. Maddison,
CalgaryI am responding to an article in the January 7 - 13, 1999 edition of Fast Forward magazine that was written by Carla Daluka which made me quite mad. Fashion police? What kind of dirty B.S. do people have floating around in their heads! One of the pictures of the seven people who were photographed by Kelly McDonald happens to be my friend. The second photograph in from the left on page 11 is him, ya, the guy in the jean jacket with the airbrush shadow painting on the back of it.
First off, I think that Carla is a very shallow, self-centered, inconsiderate, stereotypical journalist with a bad taste in fashion. Your shallowness comes from the article itself. It's self-explanatory. Your self-centeredness comes from the direct statement: "...and you'd all have me to thank." Your inconsideracy (sic) comes from your lack of thought about this subject, not to mention your obvious lack of research on this subject, which leads straight to a lack of understanding. Otherwise, Carla, you would have realized that no two people think, act, dress, talk, walk or physically look alike! I also happen to think that your stereotypicalism (sic) stems from your narrow-minded way of thinking about other people. As for your taste in fashion, it sucks! Especially considering the outfits which you chose to salute. (Note: I'm not cutting down the people in the pictures, just what they're wearing).
I happen to find it rather funny that you're too chickenshit to go and actually talk to people about what they think about their style of dress as compared to everyone else's style of dress. This is blatantly obvious considering that everyone that you gave salutations to gave you permission to take their photograph while everyone that you gave citations to had no idea that they had had their picture taken.
As far as I'm concerned, I think Carla should put aside journalism for a while until she learns how to be up-front enough to ask people about their opinions on the topics which she would like to write about. I also feel that she owes (my friend) a personal apology and a two period advertisement in Fast Forward magazine for his business, pre-paid by Carla. Also, Carla, if this letter does not affect you, I'd like to see you do as good of a job airbrushing pictures onto jackets as he does. Please, never desecrate anyone's artwork ever again or I will make sure that you will lose your job as a journalist.
Annoyed Reader,
C. Williston,
CalgaryP.S. I think that you should be cited for your ignorance!
