MuchMoreMusic

MuchMusic, the undisputed king of making a buck off of self-promotion, are at it again with a new double CD to introduce Canadians to their new VH-1 style adult-contemporary channel called MuchMoreMusic.

The new station, which hit the airwaves on September 30 (Channel 67 in Calgary), is being specifically targeted at the aging Baby Boomer segment of the population as an alternative to all that crazy noise the kids are listening to these days, and features videos by lite rock heavyweights such as Elton John, Bruce Cockburn, Jann Arden, and James Taylor, to name a few.

The CD collection - which comes with a free 15-minute video introduction to MuchMore - contains 34 songs by everyone from Diana Krall, Leonard Cohen, and Loreena McKennitt to Neil Young, Boyz II Men, and Brian Wilson.

For those who have difficulty simply changing channels on their television sets, this "limited edition" collection is available in music stores everywhere.

Will the lion show its fangs?

The countdown is on for the Leonids meteor storm, due mid-November. Although its intensity is difficult to predict, it is estimated that "Leo" will show between 500 to 10,000 meteors per hour to those observing from the ground. The duration of the storm is expected to be seven hours, with the peak occuring in the middle.

Leonids history on November 12, 1833, when residents of the U.S. were thrown into a panic by a spectacular display of fireworks - it appeared as though the starts were falling out of heaven, and many thought the world was coming to an end. This year the earth will once again pass quite closely to the comet 55P/Temple-Tuttle, resulting in the first meteor storm of the space age - experts predict the debris from the comet may cause significant damage to satellites.

To find out more about upcoming event, visit Leonids 1998: Will The Lion Show Its Fangs. The site tells the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining before Leo arrives; gives the history of the meteor shower; provides news, analysis and predictions from the experts; and has several links to related sites.
