The NEW Gallery's CookArtBook '98 combines artwork with the art of cooking in a fund-raising initiative that also brings the art community together. The book, a follow-up to The Off Centre Centre Art Cookbook published in 1985, offers creative recipes and illustrations contributed by members and friends of the local artist community and by artists from across Canada and the U.S., as well as profiles of the contributors.
The recipes range from lighthearted and humorous - "consu(om)me(é)" or how to cook an artist; Recipe for Catching Love; Charlotte Barker's Politically Correct, Non-Offensive, environmentally responsible, Curried Pita Pockets; The Tyranny of Fresh Vegetables; to tasty and indulgent - Sarah's Disgustingly Rick Brownies; Iced Oranges in Brandy; Lisa's Stuffed Leg of Lamb; Two Pepper Corn Bread - Great Studio Food!
CookArtBook '98 is available at The NEW Gallery (516-D, 9th Avenue SW).

A guru on par with Timothy Leary to some, a drug-addled nut to others, Robert Anton Wilson is a leading authority on conspiracy theories (real or imagined), dog stars, pickle men, and the omni-present number 23.
A writer and editor most of his professional life - famous for works such as The Illuminati Trilogy, and The Cosmic Trigger - one would expect Wilson's homepage to be a text-heavy, academic site. Instead, Wilson exploits the other half of his personal philosophy: never take yourself too seriously.
While the site includes a list of upcoming public appearances, excerpts of his writing, links to other mind-expanding sites, a thought of the week, and a bookstore, the highlight of the site is a section filled with jokes and limericks.
The humor section covers everything from Monica Lewinsky to common drinking jokes. In typical Robert Anton Wilson fashion, there's also a section entitled "68 Things to do at Wal-Mart." This list alone is worth visiting the site, with pranks and ways to amuse yourself in the department store.
For a good chuckle, explore the humorous side of Anton Wilson. If you're unfamiliar with his theories and philosophies, maybe you'll "coincidentally" find the time to explore the legacy of one of this century's most extreme thinkers.
