PETE DROGE
Spacey and Shakin
Sony

· Third album by American rocker is produced by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine).

You gotta love a songwriter who pens a line like "It's such a pissy town" and then throws it against a wall of guitar and harmonies that would have been at home cruising along the same airwaves as Thunderclap Newman in the '60s. Pete Droge writes 'em like that, with more hooks scattered around than the hardware department at Wal-Mart, and lots of tandem-edged guitar.

These 11 tracks feature intelligent lyrics that sometimes ramble along and make only psychic sense, words that sound like they're written by a schizophrenic who's a few hours overdue for his next dose. The production is dramatic and elegant, easily pairing a major rock epic feel with enough space between notes and frequencies to let the songs breathe. Groovy!
