Brewtopia '98 provides an opportunity to sample a variety of beers from across Canada this week, but even if you try them all, you won't come close to the number of brands tried by Brent Nicholson. According to the latest tally, Nicholson has downed 1,478 different beers from around the world - the proof is in the empty bottles that now reside in his garage collection.
To see this monument, started on a whim to honor the beer drinking world, visit Nicholson Wall of Beer on the Internet. The site also includes beer-related information and links.
Revenge of the Latchkey Kids
"Maybe I never put on a happy face or had a nice day and maybe frightening thoughts roamed around my frontal lobes, but my philosophy - that no matter how bad anything is, it can and probably will get worse - has always worked." - Ted Rall
Columnist and cartoonist Ted Rall, syndicated to over 100 newspapers and magazines, has taken his lifelong bitterness over his father's desertion and turned it into a career. He targets his frustration and anger at everything and everybody - right and left, young and old, rich and poor.
Rall is a former taxi driver, computer programmer, music critic, telemarketer, and Wall Street trader trainee who launched his career as a social-commentary writer and cartoonist while stealing time from his previous employers. He is also the author of three previous books, including the Firecracker Award-winning graphic novel Real Americans Admit: the Worst Thing I've ever done.
In his latest book, Revenge of the Latchkey Kids: An Illustrated Guide to Surviving the 90s and Beyond (Workman), Rall looks at the world from the perspective of the twentysomething generation and rails against the legacy left to him and his peers. He applies his philosophy (above) to politics, religion, divorce, fashion, student loans, corporate greed, declining wages, relationships, talk shows and more
