Be Kind, Please Rewind
by Jane McCullough

A Disney film that might actually make you laugh, George of the Jungle is a success if only because it is a reverent adaptation of the cartoon. You might hate to see Brendan Fraser typecast as the Neanderthal, but he does an adequate job of delivering the jungle character to the screen. The humor is targeted to adults as well as kids in that Bullwinkle kind of way and John Cleese is funny as the voice of "the ape named Ape."

Sandra Bullock returns as Annie, that crazy driver, in Speed 2: Cruise Control. This time Jason Patric has replaced Keanu Reeves as the love interest and Willem Dafoe is the bad guy who lost his job as a cruise ship engineer/technician and is seeking revenge. Unfortunately this is primarily a movie made for Bullock, who is the most prominent character but who can't carry a film on her whiny voice alone. The plot and dialogue are weak, and the special effects and action sequences don't offer redemption.

There is someone honing in on Godzilla's territory and his name is Gamera. A product of Japan, you might have fun with this dubbed attempt at capturing the cheese of old sci-fi and the "realism" of Jurassic Park. Although it gets a little dull in the middle, it is a must for fans of sci-fi panic monster movies.
