DENIS LEARY
Lock 'N' Load
A&M

· Comedian/actor's follow-up to his gold-selling No Cure For Cancer CD.

· Features guests such as musician/producer Greg Dulli (frontman for the Afghan Whigs) and Leary's co-star in the recent film The Matchmaker, Janeane Garofalo.

Yeah, we heard him castrate Bon Jovi and leash the animal rights groups five years ago when it was impossible to listen to five minutes of Denis Leary without pausing your CD player to prevent from hyperventilation. So, a 20-track offering from the same comedy man raving about bike riders, fat people, Princess Die and cappucino should be tantalizing, right? Think again. It actually sounds like, well, raving, only of the same basic witty quality you'd hear from your trailer trash neighbor in the lineup at Wal-Mart, not from a Lenny Bruce wannabe.

Seventy-seven minutes of an act worth about four good laughs is not a decent return on your time or money, especially when you have to sit through numerous cutesy ditties that are supposed to pass as funny, but merely pass the time, and numerous quick edits and sound bites that are intended to cover up the fact that since Leary went Hollywood and became an actor, he obviously got used to having somebody else write his best lines.

Hey, Denis, take some advice: Using the "fuck" word 15 times does not make a stupid skit funny, and the word "penis" is only amusing if you're in Grade 7 health class. But the weirdest thing about this album is the live audience finds the stuff hilarious. Either you had to be there or their single malt's better stuff than mine.
