Be Kind, Please Rewind
by Jane McCulloughLarger Than Life
Directed by Howard Franklin
Starring Bill Murray, Janeane Garofalo,
Linda Fiorentino, Matthew McConaughey and Pat HingleIt's not super funny, but it has its moments. Bill Murray stars as a motivational speaker (funny) who inherits an elephant (funny) from his deceased clown father (funny). He enters a race against time and money to get Vera (the elephant) across the country. His encounter with redneck McConaughey is tedious and not very funny.
Looking For Richard
Directed by Al Pacino
Starring Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey and Winona RyderOne man's journey to discover the true meaning of Shakespeare, specifically Richard III. Interviews with such afficianados as Sir John Gielgud, Kenneth Branagh and Vanessa Redgrave provide interesting insights to the script, but Pacino's experiments with scenes in a variety of locations make for a truly engaging film.
The Preacher's Wife
Directed by Penny Marshall
Starring Whitney Houston, Courtenay B. Vance and Denzel WashingtonA remake of The Bishop's Wife, which starred Cary Grant, this flick cashes in on Houston's vocal chords. Oh, it has its moments, but wait until the holiday season to sit down in the comfort of your own home to watch this tale of an angel who saves a marriage from dullsville.
