Basquiat
Directed by Julian Schnabel
Starring Jeffrey Wright, Gary Oldman, David Bowie and Dennis HopperA fantastic look at the New York art scene and a man who invaded it: Jean Michel Basquiat. Jeffrey Wright turns in an amazing performance as the man plagued by fame, but the film is really worth it for Bowie's Warhol.
Flirting With Disaster
Directed by David O. Russell
Starring Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette and Tea LeoniOne man's journey to find his birth parents turns into one wacky scenario after another. Great one-liners and funny characters steal the show. For a similar brand of humor check out Russell's earlier film, Spanking The Monkey.
Lilies
Directed by John Greyson
Starring Brent Carver, Matthew Ferguson and Danny GilmoreA marvelous adaptation of the play within a play to a play within a film. Beautiful cinematic transitions in the tradition of LePage, not to mention great talent from this Genie-nominated cast.
Supercop
Starring Jackie ChanOld school Jackie Chan is what you get in this action-packed thrill ride in which Chan stars as an agent infiltrating a corrupt military unit. Bad dubbing, high kicks and great fun. Try Rumble In The Bronx for more of the same (and starring Vancouver as the Bronx).
For all the Hitchcockophiles out there, all of Hitchock's films are being released in their re-mastered format, starting this week with Vertigo starring Kim Novak and James Stewart.
