Be Kind, Please Rewind
by Jane McCullough

Eddie
Starring Whoopi Goldberg

A lame-ass film about an obnoxious basketball fan who gets her shot to coach in the NBA. Stereotypical and boring throughout (see Sunset Park); for a sports film that accomplishes the outsider-being-taken-seriously genre try Mighty Ducks or Wildcats.

Maybe... Maybe Not
Directed by Sonke Wortmann
Starring Til Schweiger, Katja Riemann, Joachim Krol and Rufus Beck

A bizarre love triangle in the form of a sex farce where a philandering young man finds himself in a bit of hot water when he attracts both sexes and cannot resist either one. Superb performances from the cast in this sharp comedy based on a German comic book. If this is unavailable, try French Twist - a similar idea with the roles reversed.

Pompatus of Love
Starring Jon Cryer, Adrian Pasdar, Mia Sara and Kristin Scott Thomas

Jon Cryer's big comeback, and for what? You really can't top No Small Affair. Guys talking, women walking, men looking. The Pompatus of Love is to The Brothers McMullen as Dunston Checks In is to Ed. (Ah, monkeys....) More wit and better music can be found in Kicking and Screaming or Singles.

Escape From L.A.
Directed by John Carpenter
Starring Kurt Russell, Steve Buscemi, Stacy Keach and Peter Fonda

Snake Plissken is back in this sequel to Escape From New York, and while it's super predictable, it is fun (especially if you're wearing a promotional eyepatch) once you accept the shallow nature of the dialogue. Steve Buscemi is the highlight as the squirmy sidekick, but for better action try the original or The Great Escape.
